Does anyone remember going here in the past, with any good memories/stories to tell?
Originally named 'The Prince of Wales', Inn Mahogany Creek was built on a spacious 3.5 acre block from local stone in the mid nineteenth century. Pioneered by the business woman Jane Byfield 'The Prince of Wales' was a simple yet homey wayside inn where weary travellers could rest and dine. Later renamed 'The Mahogany Inn' and now 'The Inn' Mahogany Creek, today this beautiful georgian stone cottage still stands and is one of Perth's oldest operating inns.
With high profile owners such as Sir Stephen Parker, a prominent politician and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of WA, the inn has had a varied and exciting history – from being used as a bushrangers hideout, to being the inn where the notorious criminal and Australian cultural icon 'Moondyne Joe' was known on occasion to hide out in the main buildings loft & Joe was sweet on the inn's much younger waitress courting her as often as he could. Eventually the long arm of the law caught up with him after jumping from the INN's roof & hurting himself trying to escape, alais he was captured after years on the run.
The later additions of the Inn's outbuildings started in the 1960s with many ad hoc additions to follow, including the 12 room lodge built ajioning the refurbished alacarte restaurant & bar. The accommodation wing that was built in the 1990's. Recently the current owners Mark & Tracy Weber have lovingly restored the delapited stone building & refurbished the Inns rooms turning theINN into a stunning Eatery-Bar & RAC 4 star rated motel - B&B lodging house
