On April 25 2023, Lost Mundaring & Surroundings Local History Museum together with the Mount Helena Residents and Ratepayers Progress Association proudly relaunched the Mount Helena ANZAC Day Service.

WWI Lion Mill Roll of Honour

A Significant 'Community' Memorial in Mt Helena

The Lion Mill Roll of Honour is a solid Jarrah Board with a crest at the top. It commemorates both the fallen and returned servicemen of Lion Mill, during WWI.

THE OFFICIAL OPENING...

The Lion Mill Roll of Honour was officially unveiled on Saturday, April 8, 1916, at 3.30pm, by,

 

  • Archbishop Riley, (also the Chaplain General of the Australian Forces) and,

  • Mr W. R. Nairn, M.L.A., the member for the district.

 

The event was presided by the Chairman of the Greenmount Road Board, Mr. E. C. Brinkworth (who also is on the Roll of Honour).

 

A musical programme was contributed by the Lion Mill School children, Mr. Perry, Madam Cherry, Mr. Cherry and Miss Billings.

 

Over 60 per cent of the adult male population of Lion Mill was serving in World War 1.

 

THE LOCATIONS OF THE ROLL OF HONOUR...

Over the Roll of Honour's 105+year history since it was gifted by the residents of Lion Mill in 1916, it has had three locations.

 

1916 - 1981 - Lion Mill/Mount Helena Hall

1981 -2023 -Mount Helena Recreation Centre at Eastern Hills Senior High School

From 2023 - Elsie Austin Oval Pavilion
